As a young boy Doug grew up watching his uncle compete at Placerville Speedway, West Capital Speedway and Twin Cities Speedway in Marysville. 

At 16, Doug worked on the Ricky Hayes Racing Crew for 2 years until 1988 after that Hayes started racing out of the area.

From 1992 - 1995 Doug was involved with Mike Lightfoot, a regular stock car racer at Placerville Speedway.

 In 1997 Doug began working for a sprint car racer by the name of Lance Blevens who was racing with the World of Outlaws.* Doug was with Lance briefly until Doug joined the Andy Hillenburg team. Doug worked with them throughout the 1998 season.

 In 1999 fresh off the World of Outlaws series Doug came home to Placerville and joined the Ron Brooke Racing Team and was with the until June 2001.

July 2001 Doug and Scott teamed up.

In 2002 Doug helped Scott to become California Civil War Series Rookie of the Year

August 6, 2005 - Doug and Scott got their first win together at Placerville Speedway.
